Unfortunately yes, it can be tough sometimes, between failed lab experiments, people that aren’t very nice and general stress, so I think lots of scientists have thought about leave once. BUT! When I do think about leaving science, I think of all the good things in science, that everyone is working towards a goal to discovering new things!
I agree with Ashley! Sometimes I want to leave to have a bit more security in my job as science job contracts are often short. But I love science and think I would stuggle to find another job I like so much.
The only reason would be travelling and maybe just enjoying a simple life. No attachment, no responsibilities. I am a dreamer, so I would always be a bit nostalgic not being able to enjoy simple life. But there is chance I will miss the excitement of doing science!
Being a scientist can be stressful (any job can at times). But when you do a really nice piece of research that discovers something exciting and new, there is no better feeling in the world.
The only job I would leave science for would to be an explorer and see most of the world, but sadly nobody is going to pay me to do that 🙂
I would never leave science too far behind. I enjoy it too much. If I’m not doing science in the lab (research work), then I would like to teach science as a subject at school.
The only reasons I would leave science would be if everything in the world had already been discovered (then there would be no use for me) or if I won the lottery!
