      Great logical thinking! You are right!! The different species of grass affects how much methane is produced by the bacteria (more methane=more energy!). The microorganisms really like sugar (just like me!) and can convert sugars into methane really easily. Different species of grass have different levels of sugars in them. Also the growth stage of grass affects how much methane is produced… ‘older’ grass is less sugary than ‘newer’ grass in the early stages of growth (around spring time).
