Question: How does the effectiveness of methane as a fuel in this way compare to other renewable and non-renewable sources? Will it ever be profitable and widespread?

Amazing question!! At the moment the technology is still in it’s developing stages which means that it is at the moment still probably more expensive to use (grass) biomethane than the fossil fuels currently used (diesel and petrol). However, the longer time goes on we will realise how important renewable fuels are to air quality and climate change so biomethane is likely to become a competitive price 🙂
